some days things line up. I see something shiny I want to use, an artifact from a time that feels right, like it fits into place. so I look up its origin & history and realize it came into the world the exact month in which I've set the scene. twenty years ago, twenty years. I remember one of my go-to interview lines was it takes about twenty years before you're really able to look back. I think of the line from blue gene's “a letter from home,” the way a culture takes twenty years to catch up to what can occur in a flash to one person. I take a breather, listen to a pop song but the feeling keeps coming: the song hits the same way, look up when it was released, again oct 03.
